Music, Movement & Wellbeing Instructor for Adults with Autism


Location:  Jigsaw Day Opportunities Centre, Colchester


Salary:      £16,325


Full time:  35 hours per week – Temporary (one year) contract

Based at the Jigsaw Centre you will support and teach our day students Music, Movement & Wellbeing skills appropriate to their individual needs. As part of an amazing team working in a creative environment you will help our students with the unique challenges that they face, helping them to achieve their goals so that they can live more independently.


You will be involved in helping to create and run a new department born from the merging of activities that we currently offer; PE, IT & Computing and PSD.

You will be enthusiastic and naturally creative with ideas to engage our students in activities both in the centre and out in the community.

Your main duties will include:

  • Helping create personalised learning and activity plans for each individual based on their needs
  • Planning activity sessions and a varied timetable which meets the needs of each person we support
  • Developing and planning activities within the department
  • Report writing
  • Attending review meetings and other associated meetings, representing the Music, Movement & Wellbeing Department, The Jigsaw Centre and Autism Anglia
  • Instructing people we support in other areas of Jigsaw including PE and IT/Computers as required


Our ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills; a calm, patient and relaxed manner, a flexible outlook and the following experience and skills:


  • Experience of working with people with an Autism Spectrum Condition (E)
  • Qualification or interest in Music and/or Drama and/or PE activities, or a willingness to undertake any training as appropriate (E)
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE Level standard (or equivalent) including English and Maths (A-C) (E)
  • City and Guilds Certificate in Further Education or Adult Education or PTLLS (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this within a given time frame
